This thing looks great and is very useful. I needed something to hold my phone, and this is what I chose.
I first put the mount how I wanted it, marked the two holes closest to the middle and began with those.
I pre-drilled the holes first using a 3/32 bit, then a 7/64 bit.
After the holes were pre-drilled I put the mount up and started finger tightening the screws. After just a few twists you can hear the dash starting to slightly crack. This worried me since I saw the other guys review so I took everything out and evaluated the damage, which was not much, it was a hairline crack.
I put the mount back on and started tightening the screws once again with a screwdriver, but this time VERY slowly. If you tighten them slowly the dash cracking becomes less likely. Yes, it will still slightly crack (more than likely due to it being old plastic,) but it won’t crack badly. This can obviously vary per vehicle.
Out of the 6 screws I did, I’d say the dash cracked a little on 3 or 4 of them. But again, if you go VERY slowly the cracks won’t be detrimental. This accessory mount covers it anyway so it truly doesn’t matter. Just please, make sure to take it SLOW.
